Product Review
Initial off, I would have given the tripod a two 1/2 star rating if probable, but opted for 2 over 3 to balance against what I deem to be excessively positive critiques. When I began shopping for a tripod, my principal concern was to locate some thing reasonably priced that had sufficient height that I'd hardly ever need to raise the center column (this seriously compromises stability) and would enable me to take vertical photographs which my Velbon 607 Videmate doesn't (if you are shopping for a tripod for video, the 607 is an wonderful tripod for the income). By the description and evaluations, this tripod appeared to fit the bill. When it arrived I was initially impressed by the apparent top quality of the tripod. Whilst the legs are not heavy duty or far more pricey material, exactly the same funds at Ideal Purchase won't get you something as sturdy or tall, along with the padding, carrying handle and functional dual bubble levels seemed like icing on the cake. The primary problem, even so, lies inside the quick release plate. For those that do not know, this really is the component you attach towards the bottom of one's camera that enables it to latch onto the tripod. The problem is the fact that it simply isn't extremely secure on the camera itself. I purchased this tripod primarily so I can shoot vertical (portrait) photos, but if I put my old, 80-200 telephoto lens on this thing and turn it for a vertical shot, it simply spins and points downward. The camera and lens together weigh in between 2-2.5 pounds. (More...)
